This is the largest development in the history of the Upper Delaware Corridor. FIMFO is a “clear and direct” threat to our river and our town.

Camp FIMFO, is a $40 million-plus new project by Northgate Resorts in the Town of Highland, NY. It will transform the former Kittatinny Campground into a national RV resort and water park, with water slides, swimming pools, zip line, mini-golf, water play area, hundreds of new buildings all with new sewage hook ups, extensive water usage, and savage tree cutting, causing ultimate harm to the delicate ecology of the area.

The true scale and ramifications of the project are unknown. What is known, is the negative impacts to the region, river and eco-systems, and the precedent for more development in every hamlet along the river corridor are  truly concerning. This project will seriously impact the character of our town.

What’s the rush?

Northgate Resorts is putting on the pressure for approval by all necessary agencies including the Town of Highland Planning Board.  Given that this is the largest development in the history of the Upper Delaware Corridor, and if approved is likely to create a roadmap for many more Camp FIMFO-type projects up and down our beautiful wild & scenic River. We say, SLOW DOWN, GET THE FACTS, and DON’T APPROVE THE DANGEROUS FIMFO PROPOSAL.

What are our worries?

  • We are concerned about the risks of approving this project without a full understanding of the impact on the environment.

  • We are concerned about pollution of the river by chlorine pools/slides, and a massive new sewage system.

  • We are concerned about the increase of water usage by over 300 new buildings all with showers, toilets, and laundry facility.

  • We are concerned about the proximity of buildings and parking lots so close to the River.

  • We are concerned about the failure of FIMFO to propose or promise any green measures, to reduce waste, conserve energy, and limit environmental damage.

  • We are concerned about density and overpopulation, noise, and light pollution disturbing our quiet way of life.

  • We are concerned about the burden on the Town of Highland’s essential services including EMT and police services.

  • We are concerned about road safety and traffic congestion, traffic accidents and massive parking lots visible along Route 97.

  • We are concerned about river safety, river congestion, accidents and drownings.

  • We are concerned about placing RVs and other structures in areas known to flood – when the river rises all this infrastructure could be washed away inflicting serious harm on those downstream.

What can we do to stop this before it's too late?

  • We can demand consideration of alternatives for this site that does not risk environmental and community harm.

  • We can demand an analysis of the leachate potential of the nearby Barnes Toxic waste site.

  • We can demand transparency about decades of tax abatements offered to the Northgate corporation.
